deskcaller

What it does

It answers the phone and does something with the call

Not a voicemail with better manners. It works out who is calling, asks the questions you would have asked, books the job into the calendar you already keep, and leaves you a record you can search.

It answers in your business’s name

At any hour, including the ones you are asleep for. Nine to five is roughly a quarter of the week before you take out lunch, holiday and sick days, and evenings and weekends are exactly when somebody rings a tradesperson.

You write the rules, in your own words

Every other answering service hands you a form. Change how a call is handled and you raise a support ticket and wait a day or two. Here you describe how the phone should be answered the way you would describe it to a new starter, in plain English, publish it, and the change is live from the next call. There is no ticket and no wait.

The target for setting it up is fifteen minutes, on your own, with no call to sales.

It qualifies before it books

It works out whether this is a new job, a job already booked, a supplier, or somebody who has dialled the wrong number, and it asks what your trade needs asked. A plumber wants to know whether water is coming in now. A garage wants the registration and the mileage. You write those questions; it asks them.

It books into the calendar you already keep

It reads your real availability from Google Calendar at the moment it offers a slot, not from a cached copy, and it holds the slot while the caller is still talking so the same hour cannot go twice.

Every answered call leaves something behind

  • An email or a notification to your phone while it is still fresh
  • The full transcript, and the recording if you switch recording on
  • A written summary of what was agreed
  • The lead, sent on to Zapier or a webhook of your own

What it does not do yet

Transferring a live caller to a person, taking a message, blocked numbers and spam screening are all on the roadmap and are not in the product. Nor is connecting straight to a CRM. Nothing on this site assumes them.

Every capability above is on every plan, including the free one: what a plan decides is how many calls a month. Your whole team can sign in on every plan. See what it costs, or how the numbers compare with the alternatives.

One number carries one call at a time. More about your number. That is a limit of the carrier rather than a setting, so a second caller ringing while the first is still on the line does not get through. We would rather say so here than let you find out on a Tuesday morning.
