For builders and roofers

An AI receptionist for builders and roofers

You are on a roof or a scaffold, and the phone is in the van. It answers in your business's name, finds out what the job is, books a visit to price it and tells you about the leak that cannot wait.

Why the phone goes unanswered

The calls that slip away

On the tools

A missed call is a missed quote, and the person ringing has three other numbers to try.

Quotes that go nowhere

Half a voicemail with no postcode and no idea what the job is makes for a wasted call back.

After a storm

When the wind gets up, every roofer's phone goes at once, and a leaking roof will not wait for Monday.

An example

A quote, booked at lunchtime

Written to show the shape of a call for this trade. It is not a recording of a real one.

  1. Caller0:03

Hi, we're thinking about a single-storey extension at the back and wanted a quote.

  2. DeskCaller0:09

Lovely. Roughly how big are you thinking, and is it for a kitchen?

  3. Caller0:15

A kitchen, about four metres out.

  4. DeskCaller0:19

Do you have drawings or planning permission yet?

  5. Caller0:23

Not yet, we wanted a price first.

  6. DeskCaller0:27

That's fine. I can book someone to come and have a look on Monday at four or Wednesday at five.

  7. Caller0:34

    Wednesday at five.

  8. DeskCaller0:38

What's the postcode, and can I take your name?

  9. Caller0:43

    LS17 6AB, Chris Walker.

  10. DeskCaller0:47

Is the number you're calling from the best one?

  11. Caller0:50

    Yes.

  12. DeskCaller0:53

Booked for Wednesday at five, Chris.

What it asks

The questions you would ask

You write these yourself, in your own words, and change them whenever you like. These are examples of the shape they take.

A new job

  • What's the job, and roughly how big?
  • Do you have drawings or planning permission?
  • When are you hoping to start?

A leak or storm damage

  • Is water coming in now, and where?
  • Is anything loose, or at risk of coming down?

Someone you are working for

  • Which job is it about, and what do you need?

What it does with the call

Something happens after every call

Books the site visits

Into your Google Calendar, in the hours you allow, with the length you set. It holds the slot while the caller is still talking.

Marks the leaks

Water coming in, or anything at risk of coming down, is marked urgent and you are told at once, by email or a notification on your phone.

Answers from what you do

The work you take on, the areas you cover and how you price, from its knowledge base. What you have not told it, it does not make up.

Writes every call up

The job, its size, the stage it is at and the postcode, as a summary and a transcript you can search, sent on to Zapier or a webhook if you use one.

Questions

The ones worth asking

Including the answers that cost us something. If a limit is real we would rather you read it here than find it out on a busy day.

Can it give a rough price?

Only one you have given it. If you would rather price on site, tell it so and it books a visit instead.

Can people send it photos?

No. It takes calls; it cannot receive photos or texts. It takes down what the caller describes and books a visit.

We are too busy for small jobs.

Say so in its instructions, in your own words, and it tells a caller with a job you do not take on before taking their details.

What happens if two people ring at once?

The second caller does not get through. One number carries one call at a time: a limit of the carrier, not a setting we can change, on every plan. We would rather you read it here than find it out on a busy morning.

Can it put a caller through to me?

Not yet. Putting a caller through to a person is on the roadmap and is not in the product. Today it takes their details and what they want, and you are told straight away.

Do I keep my number?

Yes. Forward your existing number to the one we give you and keep it exactly as it is.

Do I have to set it up for my trade?

Yes: you write what it asks, in your own words, the way you would brief a new starter. The target is fifteen minutes, on your own. The questions on this page are examples of the shape they take, not a script that comes with it.
