For hair and beauty salons
An AI receptionist for hair and beauty salons
You cannot stop a colour halfway to answer the phone. It answers in your salon's name, works out what they want, finds a time the whole treatment fits into and books it in your calendar.

Why the phone goes unanswered
The calls that slip away
With a client
Every call you let ring out is a booking that goes to the salon down the road.
After hours
People book their hair in the evening, on the sofa, when the salon is closed.
Long and short
A trim and a full head of highlights take very different times, and one in the wrong slot ruins the afternoon.
An example
A colour, booked in the evening
Written to show the shape of a call for this trade. It is not a recording of a real one.
Hi, could I book a cut and colour, please?
Of course. Is it a full colour or highlights, and have you been to us before?
Highlights, and yes, I saw Jess last time.
Thank you, I'll note that you'd like Jess. Have you had a patch test with us in the last six months?
Yes, in the summer.
Lovely. I can do Friday at two or Saturday at half past nine.
Saturday at half nine.
Can I take your name, and is this the best number for you?
Emma Hughes, and yes.
You're booked in for Saturday at half past nine, Emma. See you then.

Booked at quarter past eight, with the salon shut. The whole treatment's length is held, and the booking says who she asked for.
What it asks
The questions you would ask
You write these yourself, in your own words, and change them whenever you like. These are examples of the shape they take.
A new booking
- Which treatment, and is it a full colour or highlights?
- Have you been to us before, and who did you see?
- Is it for an occasion, with a date in mind?
Colour
- Have you had a patch test with us in the last six months?
- Are you going lighter or darker?
An existing appointment
- Which appointment is it, and what would you like to change?
What it does with the call
Something happens after every call
Books the right length
Each treatment has the length you set, and it only offers times the whole of it fits into, in the hours you allow. It holds the slot while the client is still talking.
Notes who they asked for
It books into one calendar for the salon and writes down which stylist the client wanted, so you see it on the booking.
Answers from your price list
Add your treatments and prices to its knowledge base and it answers from them. What you have not told it, it does not make up.
Writes every call up
Who rang, what they wanted and what was booked, as a summary and a transcript you can search, and an email or a notification on your phone.
Questions
The ones worth asking
Including the answers that cost us something. If a limit is real we would rather you read it here than find it out on a busy day.
Can it book with a particular stylist?
It books into one calendar for the salon and notes who the client asked for, so you see it on the booking. A separate diary for each stylist is not something it does yet.
Does it know how long each treatment takes?
Yes. You set the length of each one, and it only offers times the whole treatment fits into.
Can a client move or cancel by phone?
It takes down what they want to change and tells you straight away, and you move or cancel it in DeskCaller, which updates your calendar.
What happens if two people ring at once?
The second caller does not get through. One number carries one call at a time: a limit of the carrier, not a setting we can change, on every plan. We would rather you read it here than find it out on a busy morning.
Can it put a caller through to me?
Not yet. Putting a caller through to a person is on the roadmap and is not in the product. Today it takes their details and what they want, and you are told straight away.
Do I keep my number?
Yes. Forward your existing number to the one we give you and keep it exactly as it is.
Do I have to set it up for my trade?
Yes: you write what it asks, in your own words, the way you would brief a new starter. The target is fifteen minutes, on your own. The questions on this page are examples of the shape they take, not a script that comes with it.
