The first cold week of the year, the phone does not stop. It answers in your business's name, tells a breakdown from a service, books the visit into your calendar and tells you when someone has no heat.

Why the phone goes unanswered
The calls that slip away
Winter
Breakdowns arrive all at once, and every one of them is in a hurry.
Halfway through a service
Your hands are inside a boiler casing when the next customer rings.
Steady work, if it is booked
Annual services and landlords' gas safety checks are the work that keeps the summer busy, as long as somebody books them in.
An example
A gas safety check, booked before breakfast
Written to show the shape of a call for this trade. It is not a recording of a real one.
Hi, I'm a landlord and I need a gas safety certificate for one of my flats.
I can book that in. What gas appliances are there: just the boiler, or a hob or a fire as well?
The boiler and a gas hob.
Thank you. What's the postcode of the flat?
NG7 1FB.
Will the tenant be in, or will someone need to collect keys?
The tenant's in most mornings.
I can do Tuesday at nine or Wednesday at half past eight.
Tuesday at nine.
Can I take your name, and is this number the best one for you?
Mark Evans, and yes.
Booked for Tuesday at nine, Mark. Thanks for calling.

Rung before you had started work. The check is in your calendar with the length you set for it, and the write-up has everything you need on the day.
What it asks
The questions you would ask
You write these yourself, in your own words, and change them whenever you like. These are examples of the shape they take.
A breakdown
- Is it no heating, no hot water, or both?
- What does the boiler's display say, and what is the pressure?
- Is anyone in the house elderly, unwell or very young?
A service or a safety check
- Which boiler is it, and when was it last serviced?
- Is it your own home or a property you let?
- Which gas appliances are there?
A new boiler
- What is there now, and is it a combi?
- How many bedrooms and bathrooms?
What it does with the call
Something happens after every call
Books services and checks
Into your Google Calendar, in the hours you allow, a service, a safety check and a survey each the length you set. It holds the slot while the caller is still talking.
Marks the breakdowns that cannot wait
No heat or no hot water is marked urgent and you are told at once, by email or a notification on your phone. It never promises the caller how soon you will come.
Answers from what you give it
Your service prices, the boilers you fit and the areas you cover, from its knowledge base. What you have not told it, it does not make up.
Writes every call up
The postcode, the boiler, the fault and the pressure, as a summary and a transcript you can search, sent on to Zapier or a webhook if you use one.
Questions
The ones worth asking
Including the answers that cost us something. If a limit is real we would rather you read it here than find it out on a busy day.
What if someone smells gas?
It says what you have told it to say, and nothing else: write it into its instructions, with the number you want them to ring, and the call is marked urgent for you as well.
Does a service take the same slot as a breakdown visit?
No. Each kind of appointment has the length you set, and it only offers times the whole visit fits into.
Can it give advice on a fault?
Only advice you have written. It does not diagnose a boiler, and it says someone will get back to them on anything you have not covered.
What happens if two people ring at once?
The second caller does not get through. One number carries one call at a time: a limit of the carrier, not a setting we can change, on every plan. We would rather you read it here than find it out on a busy morning.
Can it put a caller through to me?
Not yet. Putting a caller through to a person is on the roadmap and is not in the product. Today it takes their details and what they want, and you are told straight away.
Do I keep my number?
Yes. Forward your existing number to the one we give you and keep it exactly as it is.
Do I have to set it up for my trade?
Yes: you write what it asks, in your own words, the way you would brief a new starter. The target is fifteen minutes, on your own. The questions on this page are examples of the shape they take, not a script that comes with it.
